On the drawn patrol

Hey, Where is Errol Flynn when you need him?  Not on Turner Classic movies this am.  It is 4:46 am.  H can not sleep so that I am up.  He is thirsty and WANTS ME TO GET HIM A DRINK.  It is easier to get it then to listen to him.

I do not want to wake up the dog.   Then I will have to take him out.  He wants a dog.  I have to take care of the dog.  He can not or will not.  I am glad to have a dog.  He is gentle and affectionate.  Good company night after night when I sit alone watching tv while h is in bed.

H is now is in the midst of reflux.  His stomach rules our life.  We only have one bathroom now since we have been forced to sell a condo he wanted and I knew was bad for us after he demanded we sell our home.  I lucked out and got us senior housing thanks to his being in his early 60s.  Try sharing a bathroom with an individual with bowel problems.  Yuck!!! I've cornered the bleach market.

I am still waiting for dawn to break.

  1. I just found you from Diabetes Wife's blog. I do not envy you having to share a bathroom . . . I agree, yuck! I used to share our master bedroom and the attached bathroom with my hubby, but don't do either anymore. I only use "his" bathroom in dire emergency, as he also has gastroparesis, and I can't sleep with him anymore because of snoring/sleep apnea and constantly being kicked from his neuropathy/nerve damage. But then, I am lucky enough to have that option, as we have another bathroom in the hall, and a small "spare" bedroom I have made into my own.

Be good to yourself, as it sounds like you are really putting up with more than anybody should have to,

  2. One of the problems with the condo I never wanted was it had only one bedroom, after having a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house. the new place at least has a second bedroom, our "office". I hide there or in the livingroom half the night.

He is very loud and ill when he wakes, hacking or retching. Our bath is like a hospital bath, not a peaceful spa that I'd like.

Our bedroom has become a sick room with dozens of pill bottles and the diabetic supplies stocked close to the bed that he spends more and more time in.The gastroparesis is horrible. has you husband had any luck relieving it? The gi specialist prescribed a medication that is not available in the country. Big help.

At least, I enjoyed visiting Mom this morning.

  4. This has helped me already. I have never told anyone about the bathroom situation before. I am glad to know it is not me.

H thinks that by being so sick he has extra rights. That means I lose some of mine. It is a balancing act.

  5. Sar,
I feel so bad for you that you lost all that space when you moved! With my husband's gastroparesis, he has NEVER thrown up at the table. If he is feeling that ill, he simply doesn't eat, so I will count my blessings on that one! Most of the rest though, I can totally relate to. I often hear him retching and heaving in the bathroom at night and in the mornings, and he spends HUGE amounts of time in the bathroom. I have to agree with S; I can't go in there at all after he is finished, and I have made it clear that HE needs to clean his own bathroom. It is never as clean as I would make it, but then I rarely if ever go in there anymore. This is also hard if we try to go out anywhere, as everyone wonders if he is "all right" in there! At this point, his stomach problems and nausea still seem to come and go, as some days are better than others. He has compazine that he takes as needed for the nausea, but doesn't always remember to take it. I often end up eating different things than he does, because he so often wants only bland food. By the way, my hubby has been a Type 1 for over 30 years. Come visit my blog at: http://type1d.blogspot.com/

    Take care of yourself,

  6. Lilly, he has problems with regurgitation every day. it wakes him in the wee hours. His gi says it is good that he still eats, otherwise he'd be looking at a gi tube. His gi wants to keep food moving through his digestive system. The medication not available in this country is called dom peridome. It is available all over the world. The gi panel of the FDA has recommended its approval for the last 20 years. He has had it in foreign countries when we traveled and it works.

I need to clean the bathroom if I ever want to use it again. I keep bleach handy for him to dump in the bowl. I still have the need to scrub it often.

I have been reading your blog for a while. You have also inspired me.

  7. Sar,
Was going through comments on the blogs I follow, and just discovered your response above. Sorry about that; it is easy to "lose" things in the comments. Wondering why this drug has not been approved after all this time. Thinking that maybe some day (or maybe even now) my husband could benefit from it as well. Thanks again for sharing what you have. I really don't think most people can begin to understand, and it is nice to have someone who does!
    Take care,
    Lilly
